Extinct Animals

For literacy we have been learning about information reports i learnt lots about Moas i liked searching the facts i didn't like righting them though.

The Giant Moa of New Zealand

The biggest bird to ever walk on our planet was the Giant Moa of New Zealand.

The Moa lived in new zealand, it lived in the bush, forest and grasslands of South Island.

Moas appeared on earth about 2.4 Million years ago. Moas weighed as much as 230 Pounds.

The Moa went extinct over 500 years ago.
There were nine species of these extinct birds.

Moa was able to reach 12 feet in height and up to 550 pounds of weight. Females were taller and heavier than males.

The Moa was covered in brown or black fur. The Moa was an ostrich like the bird it had a small head the Moa had a very long neck. Haast eagles and humans were the only natural enemy of Moas

Around 30 intact Moa eggs have been discovered so far. Most species of Moa had white eggs with slit-shaped pores on the surface or bluish-green eggs in the case of upland Moa. Moa had nested on the ground during the spring and summer.

Moa became extinct before the arrival of the first European settlers during the 18th century. Due to lack of written Maori language, story of Moa was revealed after discovery of there fossils on New Zealand.

Moa didn't have wings (not even stubby little wings that are typical for modern flightless birds) and it wasn't able fly. Moa was a herbivore. Its diet was based mostly on the ferns, fibrous twigs and leaves.
